University Records Management
URM WORKSHOP CALENDAR
All our workshops are free of charge and open to everyone (including students). All workshops are currently hosted online via Zoom. Workshops are posted regularly on the University Libraries' calendar, and do require registration so we can keep our workshops small so we can answer more questions.
This workshop will introduce records management basics, a review of local and federal laws that govern information management within the University, services available to University departments and offices, electronic records and data management, and creating internal records policies for individual departments. Records Coordinators will receive materials from this workshop to share with their departments.
This two-part workshop builds on fundamental records management concepts introduced in “Records Coordinator Training.” In addition, Part 1 will cover record lifecycle procedures, and establishing recordkeeping protocols in the event of an emergency. The workshop aims to ensure that Mason staff are confident in correctly identifying and applying those principles to ensure their department’s daily business practices are compliant with University Records Center regulations.
This two-part workshop expands on the records management policies and practices introduced in “Building Internal Records Policies and Practices: Part 1.” Additionally, Part 2 will cover applying proper recordkeeping security measures, and establishing file naming conventions. The workshop aims to ensure that Mason staff are confident in correctly identifying and applying those principles to ensure their department’s daily business practices are compliant with University Records Center regulations.
These workshops will cover the retention periods for specifics types of records, as noted in the workshop title. Attendees will learn how to appraise their records, set retention periods, and learn about the appropriate methods of disposition for both analog and digital records.
